Dust control that treats the road, not the dust
A water truck knocks the dust down and the water evaporates. By the end of the shift the road is dusty again and tomorrow you pay for the same result. Stabilization goes after the road instead of the dust coming off it.
What daily watering costs
The water is rarely the expensive part. Everything around it is what keeps dust control a permanent line in the operating budget.
-
Fuel and a driver
A truck and an operator out of rotation for as long as the road is dry.
-
Water
Thousands of gallons, often the cheapest part of the bill and still a recurring one.
-
The same result tomorrow
The water evaporates, the dust returns before the shift ends, and the cost repeats.
Watering compared with a treatment program
Water is a consumable that leaves. The published program is an initial application followed by maintenance passes as needed.
| Aspect | Daily watering | Treatment program |
|---|---|---|
| How often | Continuously through the shift | An initial application, then maintenance passes as needed |
| What stays on the road | Nothing: the water evaporates | Product cures into the road base |
| Over time | The full cost repeats every dry day | Each maintenance pass builds on the last |
| Equipment | A dedicated truck and operator | A water truck, already on most sites |

How it is applied
The published dust control specification stages the product rather than putting it all down at once, so it works into the road progressively.
-
Initial application
The product is divided into sixths. Three passes go down on the first day: morning, midday, and end of day. Two more follow about two weeks later, morning and end of day. The road should be dry with no standing water, ideally after two weeks without rain.
-
Maintenance
The final sixth is held back for a maintenance pass, and more product can be added for later passes. Maintenance is another pass of the truck, not a rebuild of the road.
Water goes into the truck before the product, so concentrate does not clog the pump or the spray bar nozzles. A water truck is all the equipment a topical application needs.
Dilution for this procedure only: 15 parts water to 1 part product. Source: Dust control application specification. Rates for stabilization and landfill work are different and are not interchangeable.
Where it applies
-
Quarries
Haul roads carrying loaded trucks all day.
-
Mines
Pit access, ramps, and the roads between the face and the plant.
-
Logging roads
Access roads that see heavy axles in short, intense seasons.
-
Military roads
Base roads, training areas, and access routes.
-
Lots and yards
Unpaved parking, yards, and staging areas.

Start with what your water truck costs
The comparison only means something against your real numbers. Send the road length and width, the traffic on it, and roughly what your current dust control runs in fuel, labor, equipment hours, and water. We lay that out against what a treatment program on the same road would involve.
The product is Top-Seal White. Where the base itself is failing, see soil stabilization.
What we are not claiming
- We do not claim dust is eliminated permanently. The program includes maintenance passes because the road still needs them.
- We do not publish a maintenance interval. It depends on the road, the traffic, and the weather.
- We do not promise a saving over watering. Whether there is one is what the comparison above is for.
